Are You Earthing?
The sun is shining, the air is fresh and Jemma has woken up before her alarm, ready to tackle the day. Part of her morning routine consists of drinking one liter of water and going for a 20 minute walk, barefoot.
A Typical Day of Earthing
Jemma loves her morning walk as it always energizes her and sets her up for a productive day running her business. She is a creature of habit so after a few weeks has her routine down to a fine art and can notice the difference in her energy levels when she doesn’t do her morning rituals.
Once Jemma arrives at the office, before turning on her computer, she takes out her big bottle full of alkalized water and places her Grounding pad under her arms where they rest while she is typing. Since Jemma is inside all day she likes me be connected to the earth in some way so this is her solution.
3pm rolls around and Jemma is still full of energy, ticking items off her to do list for the day and is powering through to knock off time. She’s a woman on a mission that’s for sure!
After her long day at the desk with phone calls, emails and new clients it’s time to head home and go for another barefoot walk. Fortunately, a couple of her friends decided to join so they have their girl time while going for a peaceful walk through the local lake.
When is the last time you walked barefoot on the footpath, sat in the park with your skin touching the ground or at the beach emerged in the sand and water? I’m betting it’s been a while! Sitting on a towel or rug doesn’t count.
What is Earthing?
By now you’re probably wondering what this article is all about. It’s about being Grounded or Earthed, depending on who you talk to. It’s about connecting yourself with the earth’s energy either physically as mentioned above or by using simple equipment to place in contact with your skin. What’s best about this practice is that it is one of the most natural and safest things you can do all day every day to heal your body.
Our bodies are electrical – the heart, brain, muscle, cells and all body systems function electrically. Even our emotions are literally “energy in motion.” Today we live shielded from the Earth and our bodies become electrically stressed and charged with inflammation and chronic pain, a very unnatural state. The effect of Earthing is that it discharges electrical stress and restores the body’s natural and stable electrical state. When you do this, your body soaks up the negatively charged free electrons from the earth’s surface which helps stabilize our own electric energy to be equal with that of the earth. Free healing? Yes please!
My favorite part to all this is that most people, including myself, experience results (depending on the issue in the first place) within as little as 20 minutes. Like everything good for you, it’s not a once off 20 minutes and that will do. It does need to be ongoing and on a daily basis to have lasting effects.
So what exactly does Earthing do?

We Need Electrons From The Earth
Throughout history humans walked barefoot, slept on the ground and cultivated the land with their bare hands. Over time our modern lifestyle has disconnected us from the Earth’s energy through the widespread use of insulated rubber or plastic-soled shoes, sleeping on insulated mattresses and living in homes off the ground. Our homes and offices surround us with electronic devices, wireless connections, microwaves and cell towers, which assail us continuously with a positive charge. In recent decades the incidence of chronic diseases, allergies, auto¬immune conditions, and insomnia has skyrocketed in modern societies. One overlooked reason for this situation is that the immune system began functioning less efficiently as humans increasingly separated themselves from the Earth’s energy.

These are all conductive surfaces from which your body can draw the Earth’s energy. Wood, asphalt, and vinyl won’t work. They are not conductive surfaces.
